The provenance of Aretec were the vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountains, overlooking Lake Tahoe. Getting to this place requires a steep climb, up twisting roads, around large granite formations and through shadowed forests. The journey is rewarded when the trees thin out, the sky opens up, and before you is the sparkling clarity of the most beautiful mountain lake you will ever see.
Why We Started: The Inspiration
The Journey
Beginning in 2010, Anthony Rivera and Roby Luna made this trip many times. Having been brought together to work on a contract in the Reno/Tahoe area, their mutual work was in developing IT modernization solutions for a Department of Defense (DoD) customer who had significant challenges with reporting mandates for a number of different logistical initiatives. Their trips to Lake Tahoe inspired deep thought regarding the development of solutions that could help federal agencies make informed decisions based on dormant data. The lack of solutions that enabled evidence-based decision making and advanced data visualization presented a unique opportunity to positively impact these agencies. This void served as the catalyst for the creation of Aretec.
Since 2013, Aretec has served the United States government (Securities Exchange Commission [SEC], Defense Logistics Agency [DLA], Army National Guard [ARNG], Executive Office of the President [EOP]) as a federal contractor. The company holds a niche market position through the development of data science platforms that streamline workflows from ingestion to deployment. Using open source tools, open standards, and market specialists, we have demonstrated the ability to leverage and integrate all of your data sources to extract the most valuable insights. This combination of domain knowledge and data science expertise has enabled Aretec to develop production solutions that have revolutionized the value of data for our existing customers.

Meet Our Team
Anthony Rivera
Anthony Rivera
Chief Executive Officer
As one of the founding members of Aretec, Anthony drives the company’s vision, mission, and overall direction. He is involved in the day-to-day managerial decision making and routinely collaborates with team members to ensure the proper implementation of the company’s strategic plan. He is also responsible for surveying the competitive landscape and identifying new growth and development opportunities for the company.
Before becoming Aretec’s visionary leader, his early career saw him working at America Online. It was there that his insight into networking and its infrastructure components sparked his interest in software development and enterprise design. Seizing that momentum, Anthony launched what has been a 20-year ascent in the IT programming and enterprise engineering industry.
A graduate of Western Governors University (WGU), Anthony holds a bachelor’s degree in business information technology management along with several industry certifications in programming and enterprise engineering. He has worked in senior-level positions with government solution providers such as IBM, Harris Corporation, Booz Allen Hamilton, in which he directly supported prominent clients within the presidential community of interest, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense, where his focus was on service modernization that improved operational efficiency.
Anthony comes from a large family and takes great joy in spending time with them. A kid at heart, he and his boys often dress up as Marvel characters to attend Comic Con events. He also enjoys playing paintball with his older boys, and collecting comic books and toys from the 80s.
Roby Luna
Roby Luna
President
A founding member of Aretec, Roby oversees the technical vision for the company. He stays attuned to the needs of the data science and cybersecurity industry and works to ensure that the company’s capabilities meet or exceed those needs. He is also responsible for managing the company’s channel and partner alliances, and for making sure that current and future work aligns with the company’s successful strategic plan.
Roby earned his Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems from the University of Rhode Island (URI) in 2004. Prior to, and during his time at URI, he was enlisted with the U.S. Army Reserves and assisted a combat support hospital in Massachusetts. His work experience during college and thereafter began as a data security analyst and quickly evolved into data security management and technical director roles, preparing him for success with Aretec.
In 2017, Roby was the recipient of the Washington SmartCEO Executive Management Award for his work on a strategic plan to develop Big Data software solutions with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). That plan, which was in place for only seven months, resulted in Aretec being awarded a five-year blanket purchase agreement. Prior to that award, he was a Finalist for the GovStar Emerging Star Performer award in 2016.
Roby is happily married and is a proud father of two sons and one Bernedoodle. He and his family enjoy spending time with extended family in the Reno/Tahoe area, even though his in-laws tease him mercilessly about his misplaced loyalty to the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
Steve Gaudreau

Executive Vice President
Steve has been with Aretec since 2014, serving as our Executive Vice President and Executive Program Manager for various programs, as well as providing guidance and leadership to all corporate business development ventures. His experience in managing multi-million-dollar contracts includes the modernization and upgrading of the enterprise network infrastructure for the Executive Office of the President (EOP) and multiple contracts supporting the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) both in Washington D.C. and New York City.
Steve began his career as a designated Naval Aviator in 1982. After several years flying various aircraft as an aircraft commander, he was accepted to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and graduated in 1992 with a master’s degree in Computer Systems Management. He has since accrued 30 years of managerial leadership and supervisory experience, working both for the United States Marine Corps and well as private enterprise. Additionally, Steve served for three years as the President of the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter.
In his free time, Steve enjoys riding motorcycles, exercising, and reading up on various topics pertaining to math and science.
